If you've left your house anytime in the last 6 months, you've probably noticed the insane rise in popularity of Twitter. Because of its popularity, it seems almost everyone is going out there and creating an account to try and promote their business or services. It is important that you separate yourself from the Idiots and remember their is a need for valuable updates.

The people who go out there and post a link to one of their products every update are annoying to the "tweeps" who actually use Twitter daily. They are not interested in someone shoving their unwanted product or services down their throat. The truth is they are using Twitter because its a great way to get up-to-date information on almost anything!

Twitter Tip: Make sure you are spreading valuable information with your updates and not just trying to sell something to your followers. Over the past 6 months we have gotten several clients through our twitter accounts and we have never tried to sell anything. Occasionally we give the "If you're in need of an SEO company, check out ..." The clients who have come to us through Twitter have told us they appreciated the tips and advice we had given them and it was just natural to turn to us. RECIPROCITY IS KEY!!

I understand your comments on spreading valuable content but can I really expect to draw attention to my business by only doing this? Shouldn't I be linking to my work or my site often?

Stephanie, this is a misconception among many of the newbies to Twitter. If you continue to shove your "services or products" down people throats they will learn to ignore it. The value in Twitter is becoming recognized as a good source for certain information. Once you get people hooked on your updates then it is easy to throw in a link or two of a recent project or a special you have going. Your followers will trust your updates because of all the valuable updates you've posted in the past. They will be more susceptible to clicking on your links!!
